The Acts of the Apostles describes Christianity as The Way (9:2). Early Christian art communicates to us today how Christians believed in and lived The Way in their lifetimes. Participants will explore how the earliest Christian art emerged out of the pre-existing pagan cultures, and will see how Mary, the Mother of Jesus, becomes a focal point of Christian piety and art in the Middle Ages as evidenced by the great number of paintings and sculptures of the Madonna and Child.
